Is anyone here running Google Chrome on their Mac?

Anyone here running Google Chrome on their Mac? If so, please tell me how it is or isn't better than Safari. Iv'e heard people say that Chrome is faster, I guess I just do not quite understand how a web browser can speed things up??? thanks

chrome dev 9 benches nearly twice as fast (in some areas) as firefox 4.0 beta 8 with 3D acceleration using your video card.

But the UI stinks in chrome - no print preview still? for real? fail.

If you want to play 3d games - chrome - if you want all the goodies - firefox.

Both are pretty stable as-is but man i just can't get used to the chrome interface. maybe i need to try extensions or skins.

Chrome is noticeably faster then safari 4 on my computer. The downside is that chrome forces my computer to use it's nvidia video card which hurts my battery life considerably.

If the browser can load the page faster because it can execute the coding on the page faster then that is how a browser can speed things up. It won't make your connection go from 10Mb to 10000000Mb, or even 11Mb, but it will let you get more things done in less time.

I personally greatly prefer Safari over Chrome.

Been using Chrome on OSX for a while now working fine with no problems 🙂

I have FireFox installed but never really use it - i do occasionally go back to safari every now again - dont know why, probably just for a change 🙂

both firefox and chrome seem to eat huge amounts of ram compared to stock (safari on mac, ie8 on pc) - this has huge implications on power as well.

I could never get used to Chrome's interface/layout even on PC. Don't get me wrong, it is a good speedy browser, but it just doesn't do it for me in terms of total experience. I still stick with Firefox and occasionally Safari.

It seems to work okay for me but I only use it occasionally.

I removed Flash from my MacBook Pro and normally surf with Safari. However, if I get to a page where I want to use Flash, I use the "Develop" menu option for opening a page in another browser, Chrome in this case. Chrome has Flash built-in. I have assigned a keystroke to this which makes it simple.

So I only use Chrome for Flash pages I want to see, otherwise I use Safari without Flash. This makes speeds comparisons a little tough.

Someone has been reading DaringFireball 🙂 I have considered that, but i love me some flash games, so ClickToFlash is what I continue to use.

Thanks for the input everyone, I think I will go ahead and stick with Safari for now since its never given me a problem. I do know one thing though, if I want to try another browser out some day I will try Google's browser because Google pwns Bing and Microsoft owns Bing and Mac pwns Microsoft. 😛

Its all I use. Safari is so slow to load, and slow to load extra tabs, I've found that if you turn off the 'Top Sites' preview and have new tabs load 'blank' that speeds it up a little. Plus Safari isnt running new tabs as new processes, so a crashed tab takes down the whole browser, but not in Chrome. Chrome runs each tab as an isolated process. Another benefit of that is when you close a tab you tend to get more memory back. Safari hogs memory, even after closing multiple tabs (my buddy switched for this very reason). Also Chrome is now hosting and updating Flash by itself. No more manual installs for Flash updates.

Chrome just starts and runs so much smoother and faster. I used to be a huge fan of Firefox, but 3.0, 3.5 and 3.6 are just DOG slow on OS/X (even on Windows compared to Chrome). I'm interested to see if Firefox 4 is faster... Tried a beta of it last month and was unimpressed thus far.

I don't have the slowness problem with Safari that you seem to be. Coincidentally, I do have that exact problem with Chrome in Windows.

And although the sandboxing is nice (and I thought that the latest version of Safari had it... maybe not) I almost never crash my browser, so for me at least it is a moot point.
