Is anyone else suffering from allergies?

For the past week, I've had teary eyes and a stuffy nose. I've also been feeling a bit fatigued. My throat doesn't hurt and I haven't been coughing, so I'm guessing I can attribute all of this to allergies, which I've really never suffered from before.

Can anyone recommend good over-the-counter medication to help ease the runny nose and congestion? I don't normally use things like aspirin, tylenol, bayer, etc. but this is getting ridiculous.

The best OTC stuff for allergies right now is Claritin IHMO. I believe you can get it with decongestant in the same pill, otherwise take any OTC pseudophedrine decongestant. You might also try something called Nasalcrom, which is a nasal spray that's also OTC. Another thing to try is saline nasal spray, which is supposed to help by basically washing out the allergins.

Sounds like you need zyrtec-d and singulair, that will clear it all right up. OTC stuff is good for maintenance but can't really handle strong symptoms.

you be carefull with those OTC allergy medications, some are not for people who have high blood pressure, taking anti depressant/tranquilizers/sedatives. Check the warning label before taking

Congestion? Afrin nose spray. I use the "No Drip." My mom uses the regular stuff. Both work, but mine is faster. I'm usually breathing normally in less than three minutes. (Note, it will burn slightly... just letting you know you're alive.)

I am going to go to the drugstore tomorrow and take a look at Claritin, Nasalcrom, and Afrin. I'm not a big fan of nose sprays since I always feel like they shoot straight into my brain, but perhaps Claritin will do the job. I'll try avoiding medicine that needs a prescription for now since my insurance won't kick in for about one more week.

Thank you very much for all the suggestions! I'm hoping for something with the fewest side effects (i.e. drowsiness, etc.).

Claritin works great for me (Claritin D 24-hour is what I have now, specifically)...seems to have very little drowsiness side effect, and actually works (for me anyway)
