I loved the originals, and while this shares the setting and isometric view so far nothing else we have really seen is all that Syndicate like. Core mechanics of the original games have been removed and replaced with strict classes. Its one of the problems building a game from scratch after its been so long since the inspiring game was released and played, you have to try and modernise more than just the graphics, but without the intervening years with multiple releases on the genre its hard to place which features fit and which don't.
Watching the recent alpha video I don't think its going to play all that much like the first game just based on the setting of 4 specific classes you have in your squad.
