Is anyone else fed up with the Disc medium?

You would figure that the industry would create something more scratch resistant or something. This is the second game my Ps2 has messed up, I'm thinking either the laser was moved, or the disc wasn't spinning right.

Argh off to spend another 50 bucks on madden 2004 :(

I've never scratched a game CD to the point of it being unplayable.

I'd take it back to the store and complain. They should exchange it as they loose no money on the deal, just ship/destroy the cd and they get credit for it.

I have never scratched a disc that badly either. You have to really abuse a disc to cause damage...

Put an unbalanced disc in a CD-rom and see what happens. This PS2 is bunk, luckily i got a working spare :)

Remember when Street Fighter 2 cost $70? Ever notice the price disparity between the PSX and DC games vs. the N64 games? Disk based media allowed for cheap games, and after a period, rediculously cheap games (WOO HOO! Eternal Darkness for $15!). Scratches are the downside to it, but the upsides are that games can offer greater visual details and longer games for cheaper (more entertainment for less $=good thing). For portables, I still like the solid state because of the movement and abuse they take, but for home you gotta give the nod to disk based media since the abuse they will take is a bit lower and the gains outweight the risks big time.

The ONLY way I've lost disks because of scratching is when a CD binder put pock marks on almost all of my CDs. I put them in there to protect it, and now I have a MS VC++ 5 Pro disk that is unreadable and many CDs that are so badly scratched, that those disk resurfacing tools you can buy at game stores and office supply stores cannot get rid of them all. (even with two passes) Caseit=sucks.

Me neither...you just gotta take reasonable care.

At least you didn't have to blow into them like you did NES.

Ah memories...(takes out cartridge and blows into it for old time sake)

Contact the Electronic Arts Customer Service department at 1-866-543-5435 then press 3 for an EA Store Representative. See if they'll replace that disc for only the shipping cost.

Well, there's a simple solution to this. Fvck the DMCA, get yourself a modchip and copy. Never play the originals. Preserve them as proof that you own the game/movie/whatever.

CDROM lasers don't scratch CDs. They don't and can't touch the medium. You or somebody else scratched it.

Given the laser-alignment problems reported in many of the early PS2 revisions, I'd be a lot more inclined to blame your player for being unable to read the media than the media itself.

Hope you bought from a merchant with a good exchange policy.
