Is anyone else fed up with Mcafee's Security Center?

Does anyone know how to turn it off? I would like to turn it off and just use VirusScan by itself, but in 2004 8.0 it appears that is not possible. In all previous versions, I can turn off that annoying Security Center. It serves absolutely no purpose, except to advertise their other products. Perhaps it is a brilliant marketing strategy to trick individuals to thinking their security level is not up to par, simple because they have not purchase the rest of the products in the suite of software, but I have had enough. Noron is slightly more expensive through my supplier, but at least I won't have to put up with this annoyance any longer.

Also, look at their website. I have not seen a web page with more popups than their site in a long time. I no longer go to their page to look at the latest virus information, because of the popups. I do have Google toolbar blocking popups, but to hear a *tick* for every blocked popup on every page I navigage to is quite annoying. Even when you leave the site you get a popup.

I agree. The apps are crap. I just had to uninstall McAfee on two customer's systems to get things sorted out. In both instances, installing the free AVG antivirus program found virus's and worms on their systems. Plus, in one instance, the firewall program kept her from connecting to the interenet; even though it was set as "allowed" in program settings. Silly and useless. Both systems are now running fine with AVG and Zone alarm (both free). Go figure.

That is reason #2 why I put VScan 8 on the shelf and went back to 7. But the main reason was - I could not register 8 because the window display for that operation was not usable at my LCD's native resolution - no check boxes visible - no scrollers - no expanders - so I said "Up it!"

Anyway, the Vscan 7.03.60 works perfectly in the new XP SP2 RC1 installation I am running.

I left McAfee back in the days that it would install something on your HD that required a format to get rid of. If they would do that I figured that there was no end to their duplicity.:disgust:

I think McAfee has done quite a job of alienating its customers just to make a buck. The same goes with Real. They have a popup producer, moreso than a media player.
