I currently have a Blink card, an RFID card for building access at work and an Amex Blue Cash (which nobody can tell me how it's RFID works). With RFID Driver Licenses coming soon, I'm wondering what information can be read from them aka, is it worth the hassle of keeping them in faraday sleeves....

I work for a company implementing a world-wide RFID shipping/tracking system. They are just wireless barcodes, nothing more. RFID tags like you are referring to are un-powered, and hard to read even when you are actively trying too. This is part of the headache I'm working with. RFID has also been around since WWII and really hasn't changed much technology wise, so you can put away your tinfoil hat!

Different groups have already demonstrated that they can read any and everything on RFID without much trouble. I'm sure it's not happening now (not worth it yet), but when important things get RFID (think passports, credit cards etc), I'm concerned there will be crooks that will steal people's info without people knowing it :(

Reading RFID information and having that information be personal stuff are two different issues. In that sense it's just like wireless internet or bluetooth in that a two-tier security system will be needed.

IMO, consumer type RFID won't even be useful for another 10 years or so. RFID is really only useful for shipping/tracking purposes, and even then only for big companies like Wal-Mart.

Isn't RFID technology the means for the government to watch our every move? ;)
