Anyone know where I can brush up on shadows and 3d? I want to know when and where to add a certain shadow to letters.
 
the way to learn is by example and practice.

set up a still life on a clean white surface. the room should be dim and you should have a spot lamp shining on your still life area

note the shadows

move lamp
note shadows again

repeat
