I don't have TV, I don't read news about celebrities except secondhand in occasional AT posts, the only movie I've seen in the last year is ROTK. I work for T-Mobile and somebody finally told me that the cute brunette chick on the posters was Catherine Zeta-Jones. I can't pick Tom Cruise out of a crowd. I don't care what Kobe Bryant (who I've never seen play) did or didn't do.

I read a lot and I can name bit actors from the 1950's... my pop culture literacy is severly limited. I don't mind this at all; other people seem both surprised and shocked at my ignorance. Does anybody here match me in how clueless they are?
 
Holy carp. Someone fix this girl a mocha latte, give her seasons 1-5 of Friends on DVD and take her to some movies stat!

On the bright side, at least you avoided having to hear about the whole Bennifer affair. 🙂

Although I may know a little more than you about current pop culture it is merely by accident and acquired indirectly since I have absoulely no use for it whatsoever. I never watch prime time TV anymore and haven't in almost 20 years.

I suck pretty bad too. The pop culture conversations go over my head cuz I don't know about that much recent stuff :Q

I went to an office Christmas party and was glad to take off early because the conversation had nothing at all I was capable of participating in, all centered around pop culture. I'm happy being a loner anyway though.
 
Studying pop culture is more interesting rather than following it. I don't generally go with the norm, but some things do happen to find their way to pop culturedom, not due to popularity, but due to uniqueness. Pop culture isn't necessarily current trends, but past ones also...I'm only clueless to things appealing to younger kids these days.

I'm more into reading classic fiction than TV, always have been, but I keep up with the essentials. 🙂 I saw the first few seasons of The Simpsons, Futurama, Friends, Seinfeld, Alias and The Family Guy before each started getting stale. I listen to the radio on commutes often and download music off of the top 40 charts to keep up on that end.

Hmm...nothing notable has come out in theatres lately, so instead I use the 1-2 free rental coupons the movie rental joint sends me every month to watch modern day classics (Bullitt, Good Will Hunting, Mallrats). Oh, almost forgot. The 'in' to pop culture in my view has always been sports. As a Canadian-born male my thing is hockey, but you might want to look into football. I hear people down south take it quite seriously, and besides it's fairly strategic and fascinating that way. 🙂

The two lines I quoted were from Jennifer Lopez's awful song "Jenny From Tha Block". Once she had a little, now she has a lot. But she's always known where she came from...

Someone duct tape Paige to a La-Z-Boy chair and force her to watch the E! network 24/7 for at least a week. Throw in liberal doses of Access Hollywood and Entertainment Tonight. That will solve her pop culture issue, but possibly at the cost of her sanity.
