Is Anand planning on reviewing the Opteron 246?

I was just wondering since AMD officially launched the processor and Anandtech is
pretty quick on getting reviews out on new processors. (Except the Athlon 3200+ review
they skipped) The only review I have seen on the 246 has been AMDZone and I was
hoping on getting a more independent review. Thanks!

I'd assume Anandtech will lump this together in another review. There is nothing different or new with the Opteron 246, so there is nothing really to review (other than saying it is a few % faster than the last version). It very well will be the same as the 3200+ review which was lumped in with the 3.2 GHz P4 review.

By the way, where is the 246 in stock? I see only one company - one which has a bad reputation of not really having items in stock.

Nowhere. In AMDzone, i.e. in AMD Disneyland.

Um..try Monarch Computer Systems http://www.monarchcomputer.com/ which has them in stock and also has a 8.99 Lifetime Rating and a 9.81 6 Month rating.

Maybe if you didn't let your fanboyism blind you for two seconds you could see that they're available there.

That is either yesterday or today. First appearance apparently. Good luck buying it, I see benchmarks coming everywhere. :D

That was the one store I mentioned. Monarch is a good company, but they have a tendancy to backorder things they claimed were in stock...

Opteron ABC

A= Number of processors supported in multiprocessing.
B= As far as I know an arbitrary number
C= Performance realitive to other Opterons of the same line. So a 242 is the slowest and a 246 is the fastest right now.

Actually... AMD explains it like this...

Opteron XYY

X = number of CPU's supported
YY = performance rating... so far there's 40, 42, 44, and 46... (1.4, 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0 Ghz)

Silly people... :D you overlooked Newegg! They've even got some of the 800-series (and 100-series).
