Is Anand losing money?

I currently set my firewall to block ALL contents from link4ads.com and avenuea.com which are the 2 sites that Anandtech uses for advertising. I do this since it's frustrating when the loading time is slowed down by traffic on the adservers. (I know it's only a fraction of second, but I guess I'm just impatient)

However, I was wondering if Anand loses money because of this.

By the way, I don't mind the banner ads that are loaded off of his servers since they are very fast.

If so he's losing money on me as well, since my work's proxy blocks the ads in the top & bottom center positions.

Oh well... But I do most of my surfing at work which don't block anything, so he won't be losing too much from my home use.

It's not the banners I mind. It's the load times off of the adservers. I don't mind it if the ads are loaded off of Anand's servers since they are extremely fast.

Dude, you're on cable modem. It can't be THAT much faster.

That's true... Maybe it's more psychological than anything else. Well, the 2 sites are back on, but no way I'll ever let x10.com to come through!

I actually do that as well in Opera, but only after all the images are loaded into cache. I still like seeing the avatars.

this site with all its ads, is one of the few that i &quot;grin and bear it&quot;. man, that front page is like a link minefield, i have to be soooo careful when i scroll. but thats the price of admission, there is no free lunch.

Maybe he's talking about the SiS chipset ad on the 815 review. I don't know...

I block ads mentally...
in fact, I haven't seen a banner ad in almost a week (oops. just noticed one on the top of this page because you guys were taking about it ). but generally, I've gotten immune to ads (except for pop-up ones).

in fact, I stopped noticing animated gifs in general! they just get mentally blocked in my mind. cool eh?

I don't care about banner ads. They don't bother me one way or another. It was all about cutting down the load time of the page by a fraction of a second.

But anyway, my firewall is reconfigured to allow the 2 sites to load their banners since I don't want this site to end like so many others. (That's why I asked this question.) I would actually pay to use this site for all that it provides... and I'm sure many others would as well.

Today, I was thinking about how much this site must cost to run. These forums simply get soooo many hits, you wonder how much GB of data get transferred each day. Anand must have an expensive hosting arrangement because many are priced based on data transferred.

In terms of banner ads, they take up &quot;no time&quot; at all to load. Each page loads up in under a second with a good broadband connection.
