from personal experience:
I have a KDS analog LCD hooked up to my geforce 3 card, i am not sure how it could be better. I am a serious gamer and it looks sweet, i do not know how a DVI lcd could be better...
i dont have ghosting, my screen is bright, i dont have any kind of lag or anything - i love it!

yeah, I didn't think analog would be a problem

does anybody have any experience with using analog and DVI to give a comparison?
can you really tell the difference with DVI?

Believe it or not, I just made the DVI switch myself. I've had a new 18.1" Sony LCD for a few weeks. Since I initially purchased it, I've used a GeForce 2 MX to drive it. I thought it had awesome 2D from the get go, and I was very pleased with the initial performance at 1280x1024 native resolution.

Two days ago I installed a Radeon 7500, basically to experience the DVI improvement. Most agree that the 7500 is an excellent 2D card, if not the ultimate 3D card. I game very little anyway.

When I'm being honest with myself, I'll confess that the improvement isn't day-and-nite. Yes text/graphics are ever so slightly crisper. If there is an improvement in the colors, I haven't noticed it much in daily use - the colors were fabulous in analog.

So manage your expectations for DVI, and upgrade when the funds are available. It is an incremental improvement, but not a new wheel.

Guess it depends if your analog card is noise free or not. If you go from a good clean 2d analog card to DVI you will not see much diff.

I plan on getting a nice LCD next year, and I'm going digital, because why not? Most new graphics cards now come with a DVI-I connector on it, and so I might as well get an LCD with DVI-I just because I can. No sense in it going to waste if I'm buying a nice new LCD anyhow.

It's not easy shopping for a DVI lcd monitor though. There are a lot more choices if you consider analog LCDs or CRTs.

yeah, I was looking at the new Sceptre X7 Komodo...amazing! judging by specs, this lcd seems to have it all, and for only $500, except it's analog! check it out!

Most new LCDs are coming with both analog and DVI-I ports now, so if you buy anything relatively new, then you'll be able to find a DVI port. It's really not that hard. I'd say that the majority of the high-end LCDs carry them now.

On higher resolutions, DVI is a MUST. For a while I used a GF2MX with my SGI 1600SW @ 1600x1024 and there was a horrible blurring effect on higher resolutions. I was forced to use 1280x1024 (still kinda blurry) until I got a DVI capible card. Now that I'm using one... I can say that the clarity of the text easily beats any CRT I've owned.

I own the same monitor, in a 15". I agree with you, I don't really know how it could be any better or sharper. The video card might have something to do with it, but I'm not sure. I have a gainward geforce3 Ti200.

The two of you that have that monitor, that's the KDS RAD-5 right? I'm really interested in getting a RAD-7 (which is basically the same monitor just 17"). I'm worried about this "ghosting" that everyone claims to see with lcd's - do any of you guys see it in gaming/movie watching?

Thanks.
