is Analog, and >16ms Response for LCD really bad for Gaming?

I had a 15" Dell LCD that only had Analog input, and a 25ms response time. I sold that when my GF bought me a 17" IBM Thinkvision for my birthday (She thought that this was the very best LCD based on Price alone! hehe), and this one also has only Analog, and a 25ms response time.

....I play lots of games, including FPS, and NFSU2, etc... and I don't really notice any forms of ghosting. I also tried out my brother's LCD that has 16ms response time, and didn't notice a difference. The IBM monitor is clearly better for text though, and is much brighter than any other LCD I've ever seen.

...the question is, will going from Analog, and 25ms to DVI, and 16ms be THAT noticeable? I'm thinking of getting in on these recent deals for another LCD, to get a dual monitor setup. I'be thought about selling my Thinkvision, but I think my GF would kill me. :(

its all in your head, literally.

If *you* notice the difference then get a faster panel and see if it makes it better. I have a Compaq x1000 laptop and when i play games (such as torment (old Black Isle rocked!) and scroll it does not bother me much. For my desktop I have a sony sdm-HSP94P with a 12ms panel and I do notice it is faster when i scroll documents and sometimes when I watch movies. The DVI is really nice too, but I feel it is only really necessary for dispalys greater than 17" to see a difference in performance and picture quality.

Don't liten to ppl (including myself) that say that they can or cannot see ghosting , it depends on what you consider "ghosting" and what you are willing to live with. Im sure that faster panels will have less ghosting but if you can be happy with a slower panel you might be able to save yourself a few buck or get a larger monitor for the same cost.

What slappy said.

You actually have "ghosting" on EVERY LCD monitor as it's literally impossible to have an instant response time. It boils down to how much and your tolerance for it. I've seen people not able to stand a 25ms monitor because of ghosting in Word (figuratively) and others say there is no ghosting at all in, say, Half-Life 2.

The human senses have limitations. Sometimes things are so fast that they can't process them fast enough.
