duron/tbird/XP all work fine in SMP mode if you have the tyan tiger or thunder board based on the 760MP chipset. For the newer MPX chipset, it is not clear(at least to me!) whether they will work!

hrm thats cool. Cause right now I'm running a duron 700, but I'm going to buy a tbird 1.3 ( I have the kt133 chipset, damnit) and give my brother my duron who will then plop that into a dual board by itself untill he can afford o pick up 2 nice shiny MP's

If AMD proccesors other than the MP will work in a dual system then why does AMD make MPs?

because they can mae more money off of them. putting any other chip into a dullay motherboard voids both warranties.

MP in a dual processor solution will hands down beat a t-bird dual proc machine even if they have the same clock speed. MP came out before the XP in order to grab some server market share. They are essentially the same design, but the MP comes in slower speeds and is sold at higher prices even though both are true multiprocessing CPUs.

I'm running a Asus A7M266-D with two XP 1900+.
No Problems.
I even increased the fsb to 140 MHz. So i now got
two XP 2020+.
