Is an SSD worth it without AHCI? C300 on Nforce 520

I have a laptop with and Nforce 520 for AMD but I don't think it supports AHCI.

Can I expect reasonable performance without AHCI or is it not worth it. The SSD i'm looking for is C300 64GB. Can I still expect around 30MB/s r/w of random data and 100MB/s+ sequential read?

the laptop I'm looking to upgrade is HP Pavilion dv9702ea

Thanks Yellowbeard. I think the nforce 520 supports SATA II so I hope it can sustain 200MB/s (you never know with older SATA II).

The upgrade went ok and even without AHCI the laptop feels much quicker. It took me less time to switch on and uninstall photoshop+illustrator than for my main rig to boot up (AMD x2 545, 160GB HDD). The SSD I got was a Vertex 2 60GB

Test it once with ATTO. ATTO is what was used to generate the original specifications and will give you a more accurate comparison.

Yes... Your main speed increase from the SSD comes from your seek times which dont change whether in IDE or AHCI. You will see a difference in intensive apps however.

Flamenko I like your SSD site i've read alot of your post before but only clicked on that link now.

How are you liking those beta drivers for the G2 intel I haven't tried them yet.

My old friend Makaveli...

I squeezed a sec or two off the start time but I think the new drivers are most beneficial for RAID use.

And Tx!
