Is an L1A powerful enough to cool an athlon xp?

My fan broke on my stock heatsink and I am going to replace with an 80mm heatsink + fan. Will an L1A cool it?

I also saw some LED fans that claimed 21 dba with 32 CFM thats pretty darn good ratio. Would they cool it? I thought of stacking two but I think that would be too heavy on the processor.

sure why not. unless your case is full of nothing but hot air most any fan will do.


stacking fans only doubles the static pressure, it does not increase the potential cfm.

Another quick question.

I was just browsing SVC and I was thinking, can I just grab a 80mm fan and an adapter and throw it on my 60mm heatsink? Would that cool as well as an 80mm heatsink? because I was just going to get a 5 heatsink anyway, I might as well stick with my stock one, it works fine. im not OCing

So stacking fans does work in a free environment. It also works in a case, but you will need just as many fans sucking air out of the case. It's all about back pressure. Stacking fans can be very usefull if you want to decrease noise. Stacked fans at lower voltages can push the same amount of air as one fan with standard voltage due to the longer path for the acceleration of the air. Verax fans work of a related philosophy but instead of stacking the blades they use the length of the fan blade for acceleration (as opposed to the smaller width of the blade). Verax fans are sooooo quiet.

The heatsink is the stock heatsink that came with my processor.

Your retail heatsink should work fine if you're not overclocking. Don't worry about it.
A converter to 80mm is a good idea cause it will cut down noise and probably give the same amount of airflow if not more.

Sounds great. I'll go ahead and order my converter. This will quiet my PC down considerably. I think im going to grab an LED fan with it for the heck of it. Cooler master makes an 80 mm for 5.99 that puts out 32 CFM with only 25 DBA thats pretty good. Not quite as quiet as an L1A but almost.
