India doesn't even touch the Pacific ocean, nor is it an island so I have no idea why he would think he is a Pacific islander. I wonder what he should check on the national origins box on surveys and stuff.

Well I remember on the SAT, there was one bubble for Asian/Pacific Islander. I always checked that one. (I'm from India)

I don't know why you checked Asian/Pacific Islander, the reason they put those two together was because a lot of the islands there are in "Asia" but they don't consider themselves asian. I never checked that box, I always put other, or sometimes there was a box like: Indian (India).

I think it's rather sad how Indians calling themselves Indian can cause so much confusion because everyone has associated that name with Native Americans. Even looking at me in person, when I say Indian people still go... from India? Pfft.

From what I have seen, at least in Texas forms only list Asian/Pacific Islander. They don't seperate out Asian and Pacfic Islander. Tell him to check that option.

Ha! I don't think a whole lot of people have even met a Native American person.

Although the designation was meant for Pacific Islands your friend would certainly qualify if he came from ANY island in Asia or the Pacific (Indonesia, Sri Lanka, parts of Bangladesh).

How in the world did your friend get India situated at the Pacific Islands? :Q I'm a little embarrassed if that means I never knew my map.

It helps to see I wasn't hallucinating when O saw India at South Asia. Now, I could understand if your friend or anyone else meant the Indians found at the Pacific Islands (for instance Indians in Fiji). But at India?

By the way, wouldn't "Asian Pacific Islander" be a tautology?

How would you know. Although Native Americans make up less than 5% of the population they attend universities and colleges throughout the US. The notion of half naked men in headdress drinking at 2pm on the reservation is BS . . . most don't start drinking until at least 3 or 4.:D

So, Columbus made a gross error. Now, 500 years later you still follow it and blame the real Indian?

No b/c it meant to imply Island in the Pacific but not Japan/Taiwan furthermore many included islands are closer to the Americas than Asia.

I never call Native Americans "Indians" or "American Indians". And I never shall call them Indians. I think it's disrespect to them and to the real Indians. Asian Indians are Indians and Native Americans are Native Americans. I shall not be persuaded.
