500w should be enough, but remember Aspire PSUs are generally of low quality. I'd shell out maybe $70 more for an Antec/Thermaltake/CoolerMaster one.

Aspires are generally cheap but flashy (some consider them even gaudy, such as myself) PSU's. With a system of that caliber you should seriously consider moving to Seasonic, Fortron, or PCP&C, and OCZ. At the very least you should move to a good quality Antec.

I wouldn't put any kind of stress on that PSU, youll likely damage something.

lol i wouldn't sell my car for a graphic card ... you know you should limit your self.

1st : do you play games ?
2nd : Do you play game regular?
3rd : Do you even play the high end graphical game like DOOM 3 , QUAKE 4 , FEAR , FARCRY ... ect
4th : DO YOU REALLY PLAY EVERY DAY FOR atleast 2hrs ?
5th : ARE you a hardcore gamer?

If you only play game for the fun of it and ain't so serious about them then don't by every freaken high end graphic card that comes out !!!!

I can imagen most of you upgrading in few month for a G72 .,.. Is really that worth it !!

Think before buying ...

Thermaltake/CoolerMaster

Generally are low end PSU. I wouldn't recommend them for that system. Perhaps someone on a very tight budget, or a very cheap (no offense towards you if you are) system. Tt and Coolermaster are not very good at PSU's. Coolermaster does have some talent in cases. Tt merely takes others ideas slaps a few hundred fans and lights on them, renames it and markets it. Generally lower quality than Coolermaster (with the exception of the Tsunami, which i would take over the Wavemaster....120mm :))

Edit: BTW: 500Watt should be MORE than enough. A 430 Watt Seasonic would even do fine

Um, I don't think he sold his car for a new grpahics board, but had enough money and got one. Anyway, the idea here is, if you have the money to go for a 7800GTX SLI, you should spend a little more on other parts as well.

EDIT: Then get an Antec... I think Enermax is pretty good. (The only reason why I said Thermaltake/Cooler Master is because they have a very good reputation with cases as well... and I'd expect them to have good PSUs. Guess not)

OKAY AGAIN cevilgenius what do these card enchance : graphic in your game ... Well if you play few games do you really think its worth the upgrading from Nvidia 7800GTX 256MB to 7800GTX 512MB just to increase frame rate by 10 to 20% ~!

Dont get me wrong, they aren't BAD by anymeans. There are just tons of better PSU's out there (better= better quality, deals, and power)

AT article show a 7800GTX drawing a whopping 253watts at load. Another 7800gtx will add ~ 100watts @ load.

7800gtx system 253 watts @ load

Throw in your power hungry X2 cpu and some raptors. I gonna guess you will have problems at full load. Make sure you know where your circuit breaker is where you live and have your flashlight ready :D

Yes yes, but some people like ridiculous amounts of power. Do you need a hummer to driver around city streets? Do you need a two subwoofers on your car? Do you need $200 shoes, clothes, etc? No. Personally, I'd just get a 7800GT in this generation.

But, this guy wants ridiculous, you might as well help him.

*sigh* No, that is the power the entire system is drawing, not just the video cards. He should be ABSOLUTELY fine with a nice quality 430 Watt, though a 500 Watt may be more comfortable.

i suggest a 800w PCP&C myself...that way you'll NEVER have to upgrade...

(ok that suggestion might be just a little overkill, maybe ;))

I meant system and said another one will add ~ 100watts.

Yet at the bottom of the post you still said add in the X2 and the HDD's and stuff. This is total system power. Nothing else to throw in, unless your setup varies from AT's (which is more than likely).

His raptors certainly draw more power than tha AT setup.

...your setup...

I was refering to knifemyglitter's setup, not mine. Are we done playing semantics warrior? j/k

What happens when you need BTX? Plus PCP&C is overpriced so much it's disgusting.

500W should be enough, but it's the Aspire brand that's got my reconsidering. I've found that Aspire makes overall crap products and their power supplies are no exception. I'd honestly step up to something better in terms of quality. Antec, Enermax, Fortron, and OCZ are good brands. I bought an OCZ Modstream (520W) for $90 earlier today for my new computer.... at any rate, it's far more reliable than an Aspire.

Is my power supply sufficient for a 7800GT SLI setup? I'm not sure if I want to get this (depends on how much the 7800GTX 512 and X1800XT prices come down in the next month or so), but it would be good to have the option. It's a 520W OCZ Modstream that has 28A on the 12V line. I only have one hard drive and one optical drive.

Yes, a 520W modstream is more than enough - that is a very high quality PSU.

I HAD an Aspire 500W power supply. It blew within 3 days. Just so you know it is actually rated for 500W Peak, not constant. It is on it's way back for a RMA so I can't tell you the exact constant but I think it might be like 420W? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I also am running an overclocked Pentium 4 830D with one 7800GTX. Will that max out a 500W Powersupply? YES!!! And then some. I am running my system through a high end 500W power conditioning unit (a gift from my future brother in law who manufactures them). I kept overloading it. The system pulls well over 500W with a single videocard. But of course I could roast weenies on that P4 so let's be honest that is sucking juice too.

If you ran that Aspire power supply for long.... I wouldn't be surprised if it died on you like mine did.

just to let you guys know, im using the aspire psu right now and i don't have any trouble at all. my p4 oc'ed to 275mhz fsb stable and 12V rail never dip below 11.8V (well within tolerance). but it may be that my pc doesn't require much power. but i wouldn't wager it for a P4EE or even a presscott and a 7800gtx :p

is there some way to find out how much power at full load my system is using now so that i can add another factor of an addition GTX into my rig? Also, side not: should i upgrade to an X-FI Xtreme Music? I have onboard Soundblaster Live! 24-bit 7.1 with the MSI, and the X-FI looks good but VERY buggy in many games?
