Is an Antec SL400 400Watt PS good enough for this system ?
I am about to build a new system,
P4 3.4 Ghz LGA 775 socket T,
ASUS P5GD2 Premium motherboard with "stackcool"
120mm heatsink fan on XP-120 heatsink,
1gb 5400 667mhz OCZ memory,
ATI X700 Pro pciE video card,
2 IDE hard drives,
1 dvd burner,
3 120mm case fans,?

400Watt SL400 +12V is rated at 18A
SL400 Specs from Antec

I need a 24 pin connector and the SL400 only has a 20 pin
I might need a pciE connector for video card but I havn't opened it yet so I dunno?

u can pick up 20 to 24 pin adapters for cheap i hear... i use a smartpower antec 400w on tihs system.. btw, why intel :|? The prescotts are terrible 🙂. it should be fine with the 24pin adapter i think however

I think you can just line up pin 1 on the 20 pin power connector with pin 1 on the motherboard 24 pin connection. If it's a quality powersupply (like yours) it should work just fine.

anyone else confirm this,
I am running a X700 pro pciE,
the card doesn't have any external connectors on it,
it's powered directly off the motherboard through the pciE slot,
the video card doesn't need the other 4 pins ?

thanks

You should be fine with your current configuration. PCI Express cards draw most of their power from 12 volts. If you're still concerned you can get an adapter like other posters have suggested.

great thanks guys,
after posting I read the ultimate 24pin thread,
now I need some AS5,
let a friend borrow mine and now I don't have a clue where it is
lol
