Is an AMD RX 260x the best value for me? What other options should I look at?

I plan on buying used and would like to stay at $100 or less if possible, I am looking for the best performance for the money i can get. Videocards are confusing to me though, there are a ton of different models in the same naming/numbering style.
 
At $100, the 260X would be the best performance/dollar available. But the 260X is actually rarely available for less than $120. A GeForce GTX 750 is nearly as fast (within a few percent of the performance), and is often available for $10 less, and therefore closer to $100. Might be a better bet for you if that's your budget. Brand really doesn't matter too much, so just go for the lowest cost version.
 
I should also say I plan on buying used, so I would like to stay around 100 used. I could go higher if really needed but I do not want to fall in to that trap of well for just a little more I could get X, then my budget pc would not be a budget pc. If I need to spend more on one particular part that would benefit me I wouldnt mind though

Well, the 260X used should not cost $100. Hard to say what you'll find used until you start looking. Perhaps a 7850 or 650 Ti Boost? Those would be last year's models that people might be selling around $100.
 
Either of those are better cards than the 260? I should also note I am not wanting to run all games at the max settings at insane resolution. The monitor will be 1080p but if I can run at a lower res for better effects I have no issue doing that
 
Yes, the 7850 and 650 Ti Boost are better than the 260X.

Again, it's going to be luck of the draw if you're buying used. I suggest you just set a budget and start watching what comes up.
 
Will either of those cards be able to hand typical shooters like cod or battlefield for the next few years at console quality or better?
 
Those are 750 Ti cards. Yes, they are better than a 650. Not quite as fast as the 7850 or 650 Ti Boost. Nvidia names can be confusing.

The 7870 would be the fastest of the cards we've discussed.
 
Pay attention at the full name of the graphics card. A different suffix could mean a big performance difference.

GTX 650, GTX 650 Ti and GTX 650 Ti Boost are different cards.

R7 260 and R7 260X are different cards.

GTX 750 and GTX 750 Ti are different cards.



GTX 750 is much better than GTX 650. GTX 750 Ti even more so.



What CPU do you have?

For Battlefield 4 multi-player you also need a quad core CPU.
 
You can overclock it on some non-Z97/Z87 boards, but a proper way would be to pair G3258 wit a Z97 motherboard.
 
I'd be surprised to find a 7950 at that price, but I've seen 7850's going for less than $90 - a card which was rebranded as the "265". 270 = HD7870.
 
I got them from a well established member(8 years on hardforum) with heatware. He was selling just the card(XFX 270x) for $90 but when I mention it was for a build he said he had some other parts he wasnt using, so basically for 50 bucks I got that power supply and ram which seems to be a really good deal. The card is actually new, said he got it from an RMA on a previous one
 
The 650Ti Boost and 750Ti perform similarly as gaming cards but the 750Ti has a huge advantage in power and compute performance.

Speaking of the 750 Ti, does anyone know if a 750Ti Boost is planned so that you can actually SLI these cards? That would be a formidable offering but I have a feeling nVidia doesn't want people to be able to SLI two of these for roughly the same price as a 760.
