Is An Alpha PAL8045 Enough For An Overclocked 2500+?

The question is in the title. 🙂

I have an ASUS A7N8X mobo and, currently, a 2100+ (A) chip with the aforementioned Alpha PAL8045 heatsink. I'm going to upgrade to a 2500+ chip and (naturally) plan to overclock. Is my current heatsink sufficient? (I've searched AMD's site, Alpha's site and google but haven't found an answer.)

I would think that an Alpha 8045 should be enough for just about any Athlon out right now. Maybe an SLK-900 would be a bit better; I think that's supposed to be the best air-cooler on the market now. After that, it'd be water cooling.

I also had no luck finding something definitive. Alpha does provide an equation to figure your necessary specifications, but probably not worth the time. I have an 8045 on my t-bred "b" right now, and under load I go no higher than 39*c. The barton is made on the same .13 micron process and is clocked lower than my o/c'ed t-bred. Also, the Barton surface are is 17 square mm larger, which would lead me to believe that it cools more easily due to larger hs contact area. I'd say it's a safe choice and I highly recommend sticking with what you've got. Hope that helped.

I don't believe that the SLK-900 fits on the Asus A7N8X. The Alpha would be good or a SLK-800, whichever your like. Peace.
