Who cares what conservatives think. If they don't like it they can exercise some of that "personal responsibility" they love to talk about and stop reading Superman. Or they can accept the world is always changing/evolving and get with the times.
They don't even have to get with the times. It would be sufficient to stop being asses about everything they don't like (which is pretty much everything).

This is pretty stupid. They should have come up with a new character altogether. I'm thinking someone who looks a lot like Trump. He thinks he's some kind of super hero. He could be shown having sex with someone that looks like Putin. They could film him raping a 13 year old girl. Just think of the possibilities.

Comic books are supposed to be an escape from reality.

Is he gay when he's an alien? I mean the thought of Superman having sex with women always kinda grossed me out because he's an alien you know.

Don't forget:

On a more serious note, IMO if you aren't capable of teaching your kid that it's ok to be gay, then at least they can pick up a comic that will teach them the basics of being a decent human being.

Anyway like many things I don't think it needed to be done but don't have a problem with it. Yet I'm sure lots of conservatives in the closet will have issues with it (even when they're lying, cheating, stealing, and fucking everything that moves in real life). You however can't live your life worried about what these people will think because the only reason the world has moved forward is due to the actions of innovative people despite the objections of conservatives.

Some Christian dude told me Jesus is coming back because of stuff like this.
That would be kind of amazing. Imagine him coming down from the clouds and Christians asking if he has come to reward their faith and he was like ‘nah, they made Superman gay and I just couldn’t take it anymore’.

White American evangelicals are just totally fucking bizarre people who are so high on their own self-importance they can't see how ridiculous they are. Yea I'm sure after everything god has seen humanity do to each other and themselves, in his name even, gay characters in comics is the bridge too far which will cause the Day of Judgement.

As you mention, I would like to hear any coherent argument as to why making Superman into a cyborg, a lion, an ant (lol, seriously), having him grow two extra arms, etc. was all fine but being gay is a bridge too far.

It's a comic book, a formerly straight character re-imagined as gay is probably one of the least weird things that happens.
Because if a kid reads the adventures of his/hers/whatever hero and reenacts them they won't become a cyborg, a lion, an ant, or grow two extra arms but if they reenact kissing another boy/same gender ... they again won't turn gay, because if your not gay you aren't gay, but that's the general fear because psychology is still in the baby stages and nobody really knows for sure.

If memory serves throughout history a fairly large percentage of Christians have thought Jesus was returning within their lifetimes. It’s apparently like 60% of evangelicals now! This despite 2000 years of Christians being wrong about it. I guess it speaks to those feelings of self importance.

You make a good point as to the logic of their opposition, although Superman does punch a large number of people so of all his conduct to be concerned about...

Cross breed? Yuck!
Did you ever see that alien movie species where the sexy alien goes around killing men and successfully breeding with them? That's what I think of when you bring up cross breed with an alien. Yuck!

Can't help but think there's a high risk of complications during pregnancy if a human woman has a super-embryo - complete with super-strength - inside her.

Would it have super strength though? After all, it needs the power of the yellow sun and there's no sunlight in there really.

Although that raises the question of why superman has his powers indoors.

Couldn't care less, but Superman is the most boring superhero ever created. Gee, I wonder if Kryptonite is going to be used in this story, since otherwise he's totally invincible. Personality-wise he's Captain America without the wry humor.

Homelander from the Boys is much more interesting "Superman" because he's so broken as a person.
