is this viral advertisement just part of a generic advertising campaign.

The new Alien Covenant movie released a video and website to "Meet Walter", the android from the movie. An AMD chip is used in the android video. "Intelligence by AMD Radeon and Ryzen" logos are used on the viral website

Yeah the Ryzen teasers mentioned "neural nets", and "deep learning" seems to be the new GPU buzzword including with Vega.

It seems AMD especially tries to stay ahead of the game (temporally) with it's hardware designs (re: the "wait until software takes advantage of..." for decades), of course in large part as marketing to appeal to people's imagination or pipe dreams. But it could also be incredibly lucrative for any company to become the leader in a current niche market which has the possibility to explode in the future.

Neural nets!? Great AMD wants to power all the killer androids.

I drilled down in the website and it even specifically mentioned Radeon Instinct which I thought was their new HPC stuff or is Instinct replacing FirePro?

AMD is taking the wraps off of their latest combined hardware and software initiative for the server market: Radeon Instinct. Aimed directly at the young-but-quickly-growing deep learning/machine learning/neural networking market, AMD is looking to grab a significant piece of what is potentially a very large and profitable market for the GPU vendors.

It was in reference to HPC, but I don't know for sure. I guess it's for particular workloads...

Thanks!

I haven't been following GPUs for awhile. I think I'll be rebuilding my rig later this year so I probably need to start reading reviews again once Vega comes out.

Fantastic marketing really and very well done. Its an overwhelming success according to viewers on youtube. It is quite engaging really, brilliant from the creators. And AMD couldnt ask for better product placement, it is really striking.

It's beginning to look like AMD is not only getting their hardware in line but also management, marketing and software as well. It will be interesting to see how Vega performs in gaming and professional workloads.
