Is AMD approved power supply that necessary?

I'm looking for budget ATX case and I mean around $30. All of the cases around this price range don't list AMD approved as one of their features. How wary should I be of something like this? Will it make a substantial difference in stability? Also, have any good recommendations on places to look for cheap cases?
Thanks!

You can get a Enlight 2737 with a 300W Athlon Approved for about 28 bucks. I would say its necessary, because there is always the chance it won't run with your Athlon, but its highly unlikely.

It depends on what your running. If you are using a Duron...... then probably no, if Thunderbird....... then yes.

I sold my old Duron setup to a friend of mine. He tried setting it up but the power supply was a no-go. I sold him my antec ps and it worked like a charm. So in some cases, yeah, ps can play a big role. So try to get a AMD approved ps.

i used my old inwin 500 with 300w ps when i built this computer (classic athlon 800). the case was origonally used in a p2 266 the day they came out, and it's not athlon approved. ive had to have my vid card replaced and 2 hard drives. if i had to build it again id get a new case that was athlon approved just for peace of mind. dunno if it had anything to do with my stuff dying but if it were athlon approved i wouldnt have to worry about it being my ps.

My generic 250W PS has been working perfectly fine for me. I have a Duron600@1050 and it is perfectly stable.

As time goes on, you have a better chance of getting generic or non-AMD-aproved power supplies to work. Most new 250W cases will be fine.

Just don't come here complaining if you have trouble ;)

I know people who are running Duron and Tbird systems with non-approved power supplies with no problem. I don't see what the big deal is. AMD only approves thermal pads to be used with their chips but everyone is clamoring for Arctic Silver. AMD also recommends a PCChips mobo on their website.
