Read their forums. There's this site you go to that lets you buy credit that works on dozens of different websites. One of them happens to be...All Of MP3 (what a coincidence!). I just dumped $200 there filling out all the lost tracks of the albums I've collected over the years.

What's the difference between allofmp3 and just downloading the albums from torrentspy or something like that? In either case the people that make the music don't get any money. I guess you guys just use it to avoid getting sued by the RIAA?

as i understand it, allofmp3 actually saves the 'royalties' for the copyright owners under russian law?

Plus everything is laid out and easy to find...no porn or virus risks...and they have rare music that you can't find anywhere else.

Holy hell, must have taken forever to download $200 worth of music track by track there.

it's convenient, cheap, offers different formats (including lossless), and 99% of the time is glitch-free.

One of them you're downloading music illegally and the other you're downloading music illegally and paying for it.

If you don't care about legality, why NOT download from bittorrents? I'd rather give money to nobody than some site in Russia who shouldn't be selling music they don't own.

wider selection. more instantaneous availability. can go behind NATs.

well considering how the riaa has acted like the mafia and pretty much devalued any download service in the us to the point where its just not worth bothering with, they continue to sue people with absurd damage claims to extort money. all of mp3 is just a decent alternative we have to resort to. can't justify supporting an organization like that no matter how much i want to give the artist money. you wouldn't buy a cd if it also funded osama after all. the riaa have managed to make paying for cds more ethically questionable that going to allofmp3. extorting money from people with absurd damage claims, never mind their screwing over artists. nothing will change as long as they aren't punished, and paying for cds doesn't punish them at all. so grey area sure, but the riaa has managed to make themselves worse than piracy.
