It seems like this is the more important question than whether the pipelines can be unlocked. Does one brand/model stand out from the others for the overclockability of the memory.

Thanks,

PS: I'm particularly interested in the AGP version at this point.

Most 6800 non-ultras come with 2.8ns RAM clocked at 700mhz (714mhz), but some come with 2.5ns and lower. Before you buy a certain brand, check out the product PDF and find out the RAM speed.

Here is a list of RAM speeds:

3.3ns - 606mhz on most 9500pros and ti 4200s
3.0ns - 667mhz on most 9700pros and ti 4400s
2.8ns - 714mhz on most ti 4600s, 5900XTs and 6800nu
2.5ns - 800mhz - on some 5900XTs and 6800nu
2.2ns - 909mhz - on 9800pros , 5900nu and 5900ultras
2.0ns - 1000mhz - on 6800GTs and X800pros
1.6ns - 1250mhz - on 6800Us and X800XTs

MSI and Gainward like to use faster RAM: ie - 2.0ns RAM on the Gainward 5900XT GS

Thanks for the information, Christopher. Looks like the MSI and Gainward 6800s are a bit hard to come by at the moment, but I'll keep an eye open for them.

gigabyte - has hynix 2.8 - clocks to 905 stable - total luck of the draw situation.
