Is Alan Wake worth it?

personally I thought it was crap, as even the 'scary' parts were pretty rinse and repeat. I also didn't care much for the story.. YMMV though

It's a fun game. I thought it was pretty creepy throughout the game, especially early on.

I played it on the 360 though and the PC is supposed to have much better graphics and detail.

I got it for the Xbox last year for 5 bucks during a fire sale. Yes it is worth it, fun game. It will take you a bit to get used to the fighting mechanics though, I was not a fan of it, seemed clunky.

Bought it back when it came out for Xbox and pre-ordered again for PC when it became available. The game is really awesome! Great atmosphere, good visuals, enjoyable characters - plays well with a gamepad too.

Not regretting paying full price one bit 🙂

imo, almost no game on Steam is worth its full price since it's only a matter of time before it has anywhere from 33-75% off. Unless you ran out of everything in your backlog. 🙂

I've owned it on Xbox since it was new.

It's thoroughly average. I found it tedious towards the end. The exact same gameplay formula, as predictable as you can get, combined with the fact that the SAME "ghostly lumberjacks" appearing again...and again...and again...and again...is not scary. Or even creepy.
Seeing the same "enemies" again and again, who aren't really scary to begin with, totally ruined any chance of the game fully drawing me in.

Still, the production values are good and the voice acting is well done. It looks well enough too. I'd give it a 6/10.

GOG has Alan Wake and Alan Wake American Nightmare ... It's at 30$ but I bought it on sale for 15$ with the stand-alone expansion ... with no DRM to boot 😀

Bought it on sale over the summer.
I started it but haven't touched it in a few weeks.
So far, way over rated.

Slenderman is more intense
lol

the game is very easy. You can pretty much use the pistol through the whole game. The atmosphere is good and the story is decent, but it was pretty average and I didn't bother getting the expansion pack.

It's a great. The gameplay is a bit repetitive, yes; but the storyline really keeps the game afloat. It's never outright scary, but just creepy enough to satisfy my tastes.

I mentioned earlier that it is a great game to play, but I'd be hesitant to pay $27.99 EUR for it. I'd consider waiting till it is on sale from steam or something.

I duno, I can see myself liking it 10 years ago. I bought it and tried it and then injured my face due to instantly falling asleep while playing.

It was the best game of year 2012 for me before I played max Payne 3. Now it is no2. In terms of story it is the best game of all time. One of the very few games I would gladly pay over full price for if needed. Read $60+

It's a maybe little bit "artsy", but I paid $30 US for it on Steam and really enjoyed it and the gameplay mechanics using the flashlight.

If you are a fan of Max Payne and the bullet time the flashlight has the same gameplay hook which kept me interested in playing the game and both DLC's.

Are you planning on purchasing the Nordic Games retail copy which is available in the EU?
