is adding 2x512mb kit to 2x1gb kit good or bad?

I have in my systems now 2x1gb kit of patriot pc-6400 LLK ram. I don't see the point in buying another full 2gb kit (2x1gb) if it will only use 1.3gb of the ram. If I got the patriot 2x512mb LLK kit would there be the chance of a conflict because the ram amount is not the same between the 2 kits?

Hers my thinking. Newegg doesn't carry the 2x512mb kit but they have the 2x1gb kit
for $73 + $5 shipping - $42 MIR = $36 Clubit has the 2x512 kit for $37 + free shipping.
I would rather just pay $37 now rather than $78 and wait 6+ weeks for the MIR.

specs are
gigabyte ga-965p-s3
e6600
patriot 6400 2x1gb llk
x1800xt
raptorX
antec neoHE 550
xfi fatality extreme gamer
xp home 32bit

You can check your motherboard manual to see what RAM configurations it says are good/approved/functional.
I don't see why it wouldnt work.
Sounds like clubit is the way to go for you, though in the end I'd rather know I spent $20.83/GB (newegg deal) rather then $39.87/GB (clubit deal). I added in CA tax for my calculations.

There shouldn't be any problems. I ran XP with 2x512MB and 2x256MB on my P4 system. Wouldn't hurt to check your motherboard manual as someone else suggested.

Since I already have patriot memory I would like to keep the brands the same to avoid any conflicts. Also that kit you listed would be $74 out of pocket expense and the out of pocket expense is what i was trying to keep to a minimum. Thank you though.

Thanks also DSF good advice.
