Is adderol/ritalin/whatever bad for you if you don't have ADD or ADHD?

Page 2 - Seeking answers? Join the AnandTech community: where nearly half-a-million members share solutions and discuss the latest tech.
Every one of those drugs listed is bad for you in any quantity under any circumstances but until current generations of parents/children get back to embracing the virtue of personal responsiblity and discipline they will continue to be abused creating masses of addicts and excuse makers. And people ask my why I have lost all faith in the medical community these days.

I admit. Its really not thatbad of a drug. It releases dopamine in the brain which is what ADDD people lack. Their brains dfont release enough. Now a person who doesnt have add and takes it gets extra released and are able to super concentrate. The funny thing is that half the people on it dont need it. My brother is on it and is speedy with it and without it
lol, we're prescribing our kids legal meth....

Amidst the war on drugs, you've gotta admit, that's just fscked up.

I usually on take adderall when I am struggling through a proof.I can just crank some sh!t oiut when on it.

In fact one of the greatest mathematician of all time used it his whole life.

Yeah, and the great poets used absinth for some THC-inspired creativity.

Actualluy , absiinthe contains no THC the active ingredient in absinthe is alchohol (70 proof) and there are also of course the herbal infusion. There are lots of myths surrounding absinthe.I have tried absinthe in the past ( I actually have a small amount left in a bottle right) It does not make you hallucinate....The whole neurologocal damage thing is a myth...

The mathematicians name was Paul Erdos (RIP).. and he was a god walking this earth.
......

Absinthe contains Wormwood.

Wormwood contains Thujone.

Thujone is very similar in structure to THC. It produces many effects that alcohol alone will not.

It makes you wired. For me I would feel really upbeat and happy while on it and get my work done, but I would become really down/depressed when it wore off. I've stopped taking it, Caffeine is more even tempered for me, so I just drink coffee 😀 My ex-room mate used to take 6 at a time. I suggested that she stop taking them except for when she needed them and she got really angry and said that she needed them to function and not to judge her. She would take up to 15 of them a day (15mg each) Of course her GPA is a 2.7 so I don't really know how much they helped her. Might just be the fact she would mix them with alcohol and Zoloft, but then again what do I know, I'm no doctor!

The consensus seems to be that medication that treats ADD/ADHD doesn't really help "regular" people concentrate/focus more effectively/efficiently - how could this be true?

And I agree with one of the above-posters - add/adhd is waaaaaay over-diagnosed.

Definitely. That crazy 'ho that used to be my room mate said her mom just went to different doctors untill she found one that would write the prescription. Every member of their family takes adderol as well as zoloft, her younger brother has been on it since he could walk (I think he started with ritalin tho) Of course every member of her immediate family has also attempted suicide at least once in the past 10 years, so I don't really think you can use them as an example hahah.
