Is adderol/ritalin/whatever bad for you if you don't have ADD or ADHD?

Can this harm you? They say they just "get in the zone" and can study and work extremely efficiently. They do not have ADD or ADHD. Anyone have experience with this or know side effects, etc?

I don't know about ritalin, but adderol is really addictive. I don't think it would hurt you to take it every once in a while, but I wouldn't take the risk of getting hooked on it.

In quantity, yes. If you were to take the stuff as a prescribed person does, then you would feel little to no effect.

I know that Adderall is an amphetamine, which means that its actually a lesser version of speed. So ask yourself this... If you wanted to get a project done, and couldn't concentrate, would you take a drug that acts like 4 cups of coffee for 8 hours.

The consensus seems to be that medication that treats ADD/ADHD doesn't really help "regular" people concentrate/focus more effectively/efficiently - how could this be true?

And I agree with one of the above-posters - add/adhd is waaaaaay over-diagnosed.

I've seen a lot of people using ritalin and adderol to keep focused on their studying, it did seem to help them alot, but they became grossly dependent on it (not chemically, more in a psychological way - they couldn't discipline themselves without it). So, even if you excluded all side effects and the fact its a controlled prescription drug, its still not a good idea to take it.

I admit. Its really not thatbad of a drug. It releases dopamine in the brain which is what ADDD people lack. Their brains dfont release enough. Now a person who doesnt have add and takes it gets extra released and are able to super concentrate. The funny thing is that half the people on it dont need it. My brother is on it and is speedy with it and without it

come finals week here at Tech its all ritalin, aderol etc.. Considering
the effect on my friends i'm pretty tempted to try ritalin out myself.

addy makes me concentrate like no other...especially the xr variety...
well i have probs focusing but i don't have an actual diagnosed condition...never been to the doctor anyway...but lets just say i've been able to blaze through material and get a/b's on exams that have shocked and amzed my friends

I usually on take adderall when I am struggling through a proof.I can just crank some sh!t oiut when on it.

In fact one of the greatest mathematician of all time used it his whole life.

Yeah, and the great poets used absinth for some THC-inspired creativity.

Actualluy , absiinthe contains no THC the active ingredient in absinthe is alchohol (70 proof) and there are also of course the herbal infusion. There are lots of myths surrounding absinthe.I have tried absinthe in the past ( I actually have a small amount left in a bottle right) It does not make you hallucinate....The whole neurologocal damage thing is a myth...

The mathematicians name was Paul Erdos (RIP).. and he was a god walking this earth.

I've noticed in my cousin who has been taking ADD medicine since he was 6 has really has stunted his growth. He is the middle child and his older brother who does not have ADD is so much taller/bigger than my younger cousin. Its quite sad because its stunted his growth and the medicine doesn't do sh!t anyways. The kid takes it (I think) and he is still just as immature as he has always been. So hyper and annoying, I mean yes I can be hyper and crazy too (not as much) but he sure knows how to kill a "buzz" when I'm around him. He scares me at times, like one time he was really annoying me while I was fixing thier computers (pulled 3 all nighters when I was there and STILL couldn't fix all of them) and being his stupid self got really hyper, snapped a calculator cover then threw it at the wall, took a screw driver and gouged a hole in a foldable table and opened a bag of cotten, stuck his head in it, slobbered all over it and then started throwing the sh!t around, I mean this kids is nutz. Yes I do agree that ADD is overly diagnosed (no fricken idea why hes got only ADD) but I can't tell what he has. I hear of people all the time being diagnosed with ADD but when I talk to them they aren't even an 1/8th as annoying as he is. Some are annoying/hyperish but nothing compairs to my little cousin who is a spawn of satan.

Goodtimes
