run the tank down and fill it with chevron. their gas really is better. i know many volvos that simply will not run properly on anything but chevron. put in shell? car won't start! car won't idle smooth! put in chevron? car runs great! they put injector cleaner in the gas, and that's why it works better for those cars. you can buy cheap gas, add your own cleaner, and get the same result, but that's a lot of trouble.

anyway, buy some chevron and add additional techron to clean out those injectors. i'll bet it sorts itself out. and stay away from arco. those guys are crooks. cash-only prices, and they charge ATM fees, so basically its a bait-and-switch.

I call BS, although I've heard of Arco being crap before. Sounds like fishy business @ the dealership.

A friend told me that Toyota wanted to buy their fuel additives but Chevron would not sell it to them. I was told that the Chevron stuff is pretty good. ARCO gas is fine and there is a good chance you probably got a dose of bad gas. I have been driving almost 35 years and it has happen to me twice. Just when I thought that there was possibly a bad spark plug or fuel pump, the problem goes away after a few tanks...

GM did a lengthy test of various fuel brands. Chevron was the winner by far.

wow.. my injectors are easy to pull right off.. of course, I have a lowly 4 banger.

I take it you deleted the OP with your symptoms, but I saw shaking and whatnot mentioned. Same thing happened to me sorta. Engine would stutter some and this all happened after I got a tank of gas at a citgo. While all gas is pretty much the same, the last question is how well maintained are the tanks at the stations. I filled up after it went almost dry and my problem disappeared.

this happened to my bimmer. the new fuel combination with ethanol was not made for the gas pump the car has. The engine was running too lean as a result and the engine was mis firing. This had a domino effect that lead to debriss going into my cats and clogging them. a nice $6000 repair bill because they decided to change the blend of gasoline.

The culprit is probably just a bad batch of gas. Like I said before, $1200 to replace fuel injectors is isane, go tell the dealership to kiss your sweet ass. Go fill up with some good stuff and maybe get some injector cleaner, and you should be fine.

i would do what others said and get multiple opinions!

Why do people buy expensive cars and then not give it the kind of gas it requires? It's less than a 10% difference in price between 87 and 93 here.

1) it is a 2 year lease she is going to be giving the car back so who cares what gas she uses and 87 will save her money now

2) the dealer even told her to go ahead and just fill 87 since it won't change the performance or realiability of the car, cheaper, and yes it is a lease

unless i am driving a $60k car or more i wouldn't fill anything more than 87 either

Just another possibility to throw out there.

Since it happened on Halloween/day after is possible some kid/ahole put something in your gas tank? Do you have a locking gas cap? Park in a bad place overnight?

All gas comes from the same pipe. If it's shell, chevron, BP, or any other company. The refineries in The gulf coast pump it through a huge pumping system and it can take almost a week to get from one end to another, so companies put in at one end and take out from the other without having to wait 7 days. The only differnece in gasolines is the addatives that they add to them, aka Chevron's "Techron". And they do this at thier pumping stations where they fill their trucks... This is their secret ingrediant that differenciates them from the other gas companies. Maybe the company you bought from doesnt use addatives to lower the price of the gas, but it shouldnt do any harm to your car, unless when they were removing the gas from the pump station they got some kind of deisel/gas mixture and forgot to discard it.

I've had car troubles on a vacation out to Arizona once, choke froze, and the first thing the mechanic said was not to use Arco gasoline. A friend of mine who lived for 3 years in Flagstaff had a vehicle that developed a lot of problems with the fuel lines & what-not. Another mechanic told him he must switch and use Chevron gasoline only, and the car hasn't had any problems since. They all say the Chevron stations get their gasoline from a different, cleaner refinery than what the other stations get their's from.

Now either it's one big conspiracy perpetuated by numerous mechanics at numerous different shops across the entire state... or it might actually be true. And something tells me you should trust those who live in Arizona, rather than those speaking in this thread from Oregon, or from Georgia, or...

Word. I always love the "it's all from the same pipeline" stuff. Sure, but it's not all from the same truck... Or their could be something wrong with an individual station's tank.
