I'm about to quit my job and return back to school. I'm moving away and I want to save money, so I'm planning to forgo an AC unit. I've heard a lot about the Vornado, but I wasn't sure if it was popular due to marketing hype or whether it was really worth it.
There are other brands of "air circulators" out there. I bought a 20" Honeywell HF-810 for $35 today. It moves a lot of air and I can feel a gentle breeze in my current room on medium setting. But it's awfully loud and it consumes 74W, 85W and 100W on low, medium and high, respectively. That wattage sounds rather high, being that a regular house fan only uses around 23W on low and 70W on high. I'm wondering if I should return it and incur a $5 restocking fee.
So I'm wondering, is a large Vornado (like the 733B) really worth the $80 price tag? Can someone who owns one measure the watt usage on low/medium/high?
