i am planning on getting a 1.4tbird (266fsb) to replace my 750duron. i am currently using a volcano2. would this hsf be suffice for the 1.4tbird? i know those tbirds run pretty warm 😱

derr... i wouldnt recommend it, i had problems w/ a volcano 2 for a 1.2 tbird.. you can try it, i bet itll shoot up to 65C idle

i had this setup for a couple days... idled 49C but i forget the full load temp. This was with the side of the case off.

I'd say you're pushing it with a Volcano II. They're ok for a Duron or a low speed T-Bird ( < 1GHz ). If you can, get something like an Alpha, Global Win, or Thermalright. All three make very good heatsinks.

I used a Volcano 2 on a 1.2 overclocked to 1.4 for a long time with no problems. I even used the heat pad that came with it. Under load it would go to 52-54C but it always idled around 45C or less. That's at 1.4g

With Radio Shack compound I'd guess it would be a few degrees cooler.

"Supposedly" the Volcano 2 should work, but for peace of mind, I'd get something better (such as Volcano 5/6/7). "Something better" wouldn't cost very much. The Volcano 2 will work according to Thermaltake and if you examine the actual HSF that comes in the retail box for an Athlon 1.4, you'd find a heatsink IDENTICAL to the Volcano 2, except for a SMALLER 60x60x10mm fan.
