Is an AMVA panel, the glass sheet itself, thinner/more fragile and break prone than an IPS glass sheet?
The reason I ask is that I have a Sony XBR-43X800D that I use as a monitor. It's an 43", AMVA panel. Ever since I got it, there is a bit to dirt present, appearing between the LCD and the diffuser/backlight behind it. It creates a dark area approx 3x3 pixels, and is situated near the center on the horizontal axis and 1/4th of the down on the vertical axis. The placement puts is basically smack-dab in the area where your attention is normally focused, where all the faces etc. are present in a video.
Returning it wasn't an option, and I recently got word from Sony that they won't replace the panel. So I was wondering if I should get the panel opened and cleaned. I have opened and cleaned IPS monitors myself. The local Sony service center said that they can give it a go if I want, bu it will be riskier than cleaning IPS, since VA panels are more fragile and prone to breaking.
Is that so? Is it really that much of a problem? Should I go for it? Does anyone have any experience/advice in this area?
