Is a trip to the Galapagos Islands worth it?

Has anyone here been to the Galapagos Islands? Think it's worth about $2000 for the trip there? Experiences? Advice?

i know a couple who went there on their honeymoon and loved it. but they are both outdoorsy types who are into scuba.

I'm outdoorsy so that part should work out fine I was actually offered to take the place of someone who pulled out last minute and so I have to make a decision fast. I usually research the hell out of wherever I'm going so I'm not too sure about this yet..

Aren't they closing the island to tourists soon?

Regardless, I'd still go. The wildlife there is truly unique.

FYI I haven't been there, just saw a special on it a few days ago.

As soon as I get my Ecuadorian citizenship it will be an ultra cheap trip for me. I can't wait.

BTW, most of my family has been there and they highly recommend it. I have a cousin who lives on the island as well.

im a scientist and outdoorsman and thus find it overly fascinating ...yet i still find it pricy ....if you combine it with a Stint in peru or ecuador then it'd be one hell of a trip !!!)
