Is a surge protector needed for a notebook....

NO... It's a Dell.... Let it fry!!!!!!! 😛

But.. reality is YES... Buy a decent one and that way you canplug your peripherals into it as well.....

If the question is "Do I have to carry one with me when I'm travellling?" then the answer is NO.... I never have, I have enough crap to carry, and in nine years of notebook use I've never lost one due to surges *On the road.

APC makes a small in-line surge supressor that plugs between your battery and the outlet. I recommend them. Adds little weight and doesn't take up much space.

Yeah, I'm with Odin. Sorta... I bought a single outlet Belkin Surge Protector that I always use with my lappy merely as a cheap insurance policy 🙂
