Is a sound card worth it on a DFI SLI-DR?

Is the Karajan audio module that comes with the DR a "sound card" in the sense that it takes the sound processing load away from the CPU? Or is a stand alone sound card really the only way of doing that?

I will not need it for 5.1 or 7.1 sound or anything like that, just a 2.1 set up. (There is not a good place for me to put the other speakers?)

the karojen is fine for that. it reduces the performance hit to ~7% max which is excellent. i had a chaintech i used for a bit but put it in my other system and went back to the karojen.
