Is a Router necessary for a web server?

I'm setting up a web server with FreeBSD OS, and I want to connect through a Cable modem (always connected with static IP) Is a router absolutely necessary to run a web server?

If you have only one computer, you don?t need a Router.

the router is only going to get in the way and cause a lot of unneccessary configuration steps , provided you only have the one computer hooked up to it with a static IP. Hmm basicaly what the first guy said huh! Oh well I m too lazy to erase it now.
