Is a repair installation of Win2k the way to go?

I recently upgraded all of the critical parts of my computer except the hard drive. I didn't do a wipe and re-install; instead I just switched motherboard drivers and installed all the new drivers for the new parts but kept my windows installation.

Now I have a problem

. My new computer freezes whenever it runs 3D applications. I originally thought it was an incompatibility between the KT266A chipset on the motherboard and the Audigy soundcard. I downloaded a 3D demo with no sound. Ran it....computer froze. :|

The only solution I can think of is that there is some conflict with old drivers or system files which were meant to run on my old computer but are now running on my new computer.

I'm thinking of trying to repair the windows installation. I think this way windows will install all the correct drivers and system files, plus I (hopefully) will get to keep all my settings.

Does a repair of my windows installation seem like a plausible solution? Are there any other options?

Thanks.

The best option is to back-up all your shtuff and format w/ a clean install.

format is the best solution but just installing and deleting the C:\windows directory
