Hey all just wondering specifically about an Avermedia Live Capture HD and if it is that much better then just using OBS? I got am Elgato for console gaming and just found out OBS has the same abilities built right in.

Anyone with experience with this card or streaming/recording game plays input will be greatly appreciated.

Capture devices are required if you're recording from console, and literally pointless (as in, it makes as much sense as buying a blender for doing your taxes) if you're recording PC games as that's not what they exist for.

Considering that the Avermedia Live Gamer HD costs $190 and you can buy a CPU capable of gaming and streaming simultaneously for $240 (i5 4670K), I'm going to lean towards yes. OBS has more capabilities than a capture card, so there's no reason not to use it assuming you have enough CPU horsepower.

Thank you that's what I was thinking just wanted to make sure.

No need for card if you have a good CPU ... video card would matter possibly they can all do 2d well in the desktop that is. Instead put that money to good use and buy a SSD or save it and buying new CPU ,, etc..
