Is a Opteron 265 better for gaming then a Opteron 165?

i'm not sure but i think the 265 is the dual core version of the 165 chip...
if that is so and the gaming fraternity follows true as with other processors then...
only Quake 4 and Call Of Duty 2 really make use of a second core...but i'm not 100% on that so...
see what others have to say also...and please don't bash me if i'm wrong just tell me the right thing...:)

No. The only difference between the 1xx and 2xx series Opterons is the interconnects that allow the 2xx Opterons to communicate directly with another 2xx Opteron (in a Dual CPU setup). You won't see any difference in games or any other programs with a single 2xx Opteron vs a single 1xx Opteron.

FYI, the 8xx Opterons have interconnects that allow communication with up to 8 CPUs (4 or 8 CPU setup).

Most of Opteron 165's fame stems from its overclock-ability. I'd think 265's have the same potential, but the choice of motherboards is severely limited.

As previously mentioned, don't get a 265 unless you plan on using a workstation-class motherboard that supports dual sockets.

Get yourself a 165, but make sure the motherboard and do high HTT speeds if you plan to overclock. Or just get a 170 ;)
