I'm just curious how much hp (if any) can i expect from a new muffler (borla, konig etc) ?
Plus where can i get soem decent looking ones? All i can fiind are chrome tubes with humongous tips (5 inches? wtf). I want a dual tip one, i like the look of it.

My car is turbo awd / 5 speed btw.

I dont think i can afford full exhaust, plusi think theres welding involved. I do like the sound, but i cant stand the huge circular tips

2-5HP is average from aftermarket mufflers in my experience. Are you replacing the muffler and exhaust tip only, or a complete cat-back set-up halik?

If you just replace a muffler it will make next to no difference...

what you want is a whole catback system (which means replace the whole exhaust from the headers back)... With a larger exhaust system, you will gain a couple horsepower with a non-turbo Talon, and even more if yours is a turbo'ed one...

A new muffler by itself will most likely have zero effect on performance. A full cat-back system may (or may not) give you 5hp. However, if you like the way it sounds, go for it.. (but go for it with your eyes open, not believing the advertising hype)

is it a TSi AWD? if so, a whole new exhaust including headers would do it very well, other wise you may get like 7 or 8 HP NOT at the wheels if it is just a normal talon, and it will be louder, and more ricy

edit: i meant the Tsi will will get 7-8 NOT at the wheels, not the normal one. The normal ones usually dont benefit much because the cat is what causes a lot of the back pressure not the muffler

I have a 96 Talon and I put an APC Intimidator muffler on it. It sounds friggen awesome. I got pulled over for it though by the good ol' Massachusetts State Police for being too loud though. But anyways, I havn't noticed any increase in power with the muffler alone. A cat back system will give you a little more "sack" but don't expect to take any more than a second off your 1/4 mile.

Take a look at some cold air intakes too.

FYI- I bought a strut bar off ebay for my talon and it didnt fit b/c it was made for a turbo and my car doesn't have turbo. I want to sell it...let me know if you're interested

Are you joking? A full cat-back exhaust dropping your 1/4 mile by a second? Something that only adds about 5hp will not drop your 1/4 by a second

Yes, definitely don't expect it to take off more than 1 second from your 1/4 mile time

Damn, some of you people have no clue, why do you post in these threads?

Is a new muffler gonna do my talon any good?
plain and simple: performancewise - no.

BTW - if you do buy a complete catback, and it lowers your 1/4 mile tme by more than .15 seconds, you did pretty well.

you are much better off using that money and buying a nitrus kit.

Yeah, nitrus is the shizznit. I put a nitrus kitt on my acord and it runz 10.2 in the 1/2 mile now with just a catback and a koal air inake. pluz my Bnzai sticker add 20hp at the wheelz. :p

It's cheaper than upgrading the turbo and doing all those things that make a turbo-ed car go faster. Honestly, you should save up your money until you can afford to make it faster

Just remove the muffler and put on a $50 borla muffler, the turbo muffles so much of the sound it won't be that loud. gus reviews some mufflers sound and air flow Actually in one of my turbo cars it goes from the downpipe to the cat, and out a sidepipe under the drivers door with no muffler. Its not all that loud with a turbo.

A muffler NO...what you need to do is change the piping to the muffler. A 3inch piping or bigger would do your turbo WONDERS and also see if you can get a DOWNPIPE that and nice muffler combined could yield 20HP!

DOWNPIPE + 3inch or bigger piping MANDREL BENT + good muffler

Kalik,

$30 plus whatever shipping method you want. I have to get some batteries for my cam tomorrow so I'll take a pic of it so you can check it out first. Thanks.
