Is a mp3 player that plays video files as well really worth it?

Well Ive been beating my head in trying to decide whether to purchase an mp3 player with the video playback capabilities and right now Im leaning towars the IAudio X5 and Archos Gmini 400.

But I see regular mp3 players with no video playback for lower prices and more space and I cant help but think to myself do I really need that? I think one of the main reasons I want one that plays video as well is to show off....

But anyway if anyone can tell me their experiences with mp3 players that play video files please tell me if it was worth the money or do you think you now looking back you didnt need the video features...

Other than the video mp3 players I listed above. The mp3 players Im mainly intrested in are the creative zen touch and creative zen xtra. There are others Im sure Ive seen but Im not really interested in an ipod, they just seem overpriced..

i think colour displays and video playback is useless.

1. dinky screen
2. battery drain
3. did you not get the mp3 for music?
4. mp3 is mainly for portability so you get music on the move, kinda hard to watch a video on the move imo
5. the only source of videos will be ones you import. you probably watched it already if it was on your comp before but if it has a camera, it could be a good image previewer.
6. might as well get something like PSP if you really want video

on that note, i recommend a zen micro 🙂

Battery drain really isn't a valid point, IMO.

I think it comes down to features, not including the fact that it has a color screen and can support viewing photos, and storing them from your digital camera. The X5 is simply FEATURE packed.

And how can you recommend a zen micro when he is obviously looking at players that are at least 20GB 😛. Seems like to me you might have one, so you are obviously biased.

And I think many people who use their DAP are also often sitting either on a bus, subway, etc..not just walking around. Who knows...

Let me ask you this. Is most of your collection just mp3s or do you also use other formats?

Then one of those 20-60GB zens would work just fine.

oops didn't see the 20gb part

well im not really sure what his purpose is but assuming he wants the player mainly for music, i sould keep the size down. kinda like getting one of those huge and heavy but powerful laptops, they are nice, but defeats the purpose of a laptop. just my 2 cents.
