Hi all,
I am about to move to NJ and I need to know your opinions on buying a Medeco lock. Is it overkill since its very expensive. I know that its very good. The neighborhood seems quiet but you never know.

How about some the comparable ones like Multilock and the like...

Your thoughts.

Thanks

I use em. I guess you already know that the keys have a third dimension left to right "draft" on the
crevices, meaning they cant be duplicated on a key machine - have to send out for them with a code.

Just get 6 el cheapo locks. But only ever lock 3 of them. Anyone who tries to pick the locks is always going to be locking half of them :)
Did I learn that from Carlin?

Only use Medeco locks if you care about what happens to your goodies. ;)

I do locksmithing on the side and it is always amazing to me the number of people that
have $200 k houses and $20 front door locks.
Medeco is great for kickin protection and inability to duplicate keys.
p.s Assa is another good brand

ps2. Good locks are one of the best investments you will ever make :)

Thanks Infos.

Any thoughts on the "Arrow" brand lock????

Is it overkill to have a similar expensive brand for the doorknob???

Thoughts.

You can put a $1,000, $10,000 or $100,000 lock on your door if you want, if they want in your house bad enough they will bypass the door and break the damn window. If that fails they can get a sledgehammer and beat a hole in the wall, if that fails they can cut a hole in the roof.

IF THEY WANT IN, THEY WILL GET IN.

Best investment you will ever make is a comprehensive insurance policy.

I have most all my locks keyed alike
One key for most everything (One of the advantages of being a locksmith)
Medeco or Assa are some of the few things that aren't being made in China these days :disgust:
Is that Arrow lock you are looking at made in the US?
They have some decent residential locks but they definitely aren't Assa or Medeco :)

Get one of those Police locks that bolt on both sides of your door. Those things are inpenetrable (at least to the common theif).

A good lock will last 30 or 40 years at least. Insurance policies are paid annually.
A good lock is a MUCH BETTER investment.

The Arrow cylindrical lock is made in USA.

Does that mean better quality of parts and stronger metal compared to China stuff???

I always thought thieves came in through the window. or maybe they just pry open the door with a crowbar.
