Is a jet taking off inside my case?

So I bought an SLK-800 w/ 84 CFM Sunon and thought I would do some extreme overclocking with my 2400+ but as it turns out, the best I think I'm going to get is a mere 250 MHz jump with it based on my early testing.

The problem is that I didn't anticipate how loud 55 dbs really is until you hook the damn thing up. Like I said in the title it sounds like a jet airplane taking off inside my case. At least the processor never reaches 40C!

What is considered a respectable dbs level? What fans do you guys recommend for my situation if I were to replace it?

Well, if you feel like tinker a bit, you could make your own fan adapter and put a 120mm on it. I have one on my AX7, and my cpu temp stays around 43c.. and its the quietest system at LANs 🙂

I just read an article on Overclockers.com the other night and the guy there said 39 db is the standard "acceptable" noise level.

For the last 3 months I've been using the Y.S. Tech adjustable fan the others have mentioned. Even at its highest rpm setting I find the noise level acceptable, though definately noticable. If you find the highest setting too loud, you can still get pretty good performance by turning it down to more acceptable levels.

Huhh ?!?

Whassatcha say ??

Will someone answer that phone !

Yea, i know what you mean. I couldn't take my 7000rpm Delta anymore, replaced it with a quieter 80mm fan... and that buzzing in my head has almost subsided after a week.

My top votes would be either a Panaflo H1A or a YS Tech adjustable-rpm fan.

What are the CFM and DBs of these fans at each of the adjustable rpm levels? I like to look at the numbers for comparison sake.

I'll help my friend MechBgon out a bit - here's a link to S V C which gives data, specs, & prices for the T.S. Tech fan, and some info about the Panaflo L1A fan.

The infor for the H1A is at NewEgg

Check it out.

Thanks guys, that YS-Tech fan that puts out 48-49 CFM looks nice. It's only about 38-39 Dbs which is a lot better than 55 that I'm dealing with now.

Where are some places to buy these fans cheaply but yet won't screw me over? SVC looks like an ok place, but their shipping prices are WAY high! I saw on the SVC a 5-pack of NMB fans for your case that I'm interested in too. I need to replace a bunch of case fans in my other computers and the price looks good.

i have 6 Fans in my case counitng the CPU fan. and i think all of them are rated at at least 45 dba. The tornado is the loudest followed by the delta screamer then then 2x 120mm sunnons and 120mm Y.S Tech

I like to refer to it as a hover craft

but the CPU never gets above 37C with Good Ocing and after playing UT2003 for hours

so im happy

Well I ended up buying the YS-Tech that has the respectable 39 dbs and @48 CFM. Slight more then 1/2 what I was pushing at my 2400+. I also got a couple Sunon low dbs fans for my cases to replace some of the louder ones.

Of course my new computer up and dies before I get to put all these new fans to work so I'm back in the holding pattern until I get my motherboard replaced/repaired.
