Is a high end MB worth it?

I am looking at getting a new MB. I don't overclock but I do play current games. I don't do SLI/Crossfire.

What's the big advantage of a high end $200 board with a 790GX chipset versus a 100$ board with a 780G chipset (or equivalent Intel chipsets)? If I correctly remember the article I read somewhere, their was only 1 or 2 fps difference between chipsets. From what I see the big difference between boards is the number of USB ports, firewire, SLI/Crossfire, overclocking abilities, etc. If a $100 board has the features I need, do I really have any need for the $200 board? Or is their really also a performance advantage?

In most cases, no. Unless you want SLI or i7 theres not too much of a need to spend over $150 or so, unless you really need 4 LAN ports (ala DQ6)

$100-150 seems to be the sweet spot for enthusiasts, SLI/i7 excluded

I am a system builder on the side and i have built several Biostar TA790GX rigs and now people are not only running but OCing Phenom 2s on these with great results!
