Do the clips on these HSF units break apart when they are mounted on the CPU inside the case. I ask this, because while I was installing my FOP38 (It's toooooo damn loud!!) I dislodged the clip with my screwdriver. Could this thing just pop off at any time??

I don't wanna toasty TBird. ;)

Well I found the FOP 38 fan too loud so I changed it for the YSTECH 60mm like on the FOP32 and its much better and only a couple of degress rise.

the clips for the fan should be removablable...try and put it back on?

That's what worries me. The fact that they are removable, means they have a chance of removing themselves during normal operation.

Could these things pop off??

Every heatsink is removable...fortunately. If the clip of the FOP (or any other HS) is not already damaged before installation or gets damaged during installation and if the HS is installed correctly in general, it won't remove itself during operation.

I realise that the heatsinks are removable, it's just that the little clipping mechanism on the end of the FOP38 clip seems a bit too weakly put together. I mean, it looks like it could fall apart real easy.

Maybe, but if it's really a big problem we would have heard much more about it because it's a very popular HS...and, by the way, Global Win is using this clip for a few years already, so I don't think it's a problem with every clip of this design. I think you somehow damaged your clip if you're having problems!
