Is a Ford Focus really tall, or iss my mustang really low?

😀

Yeah notfred, the seating in a Focus is higher than your Mustang.

I don't think that the Focus is really that much taller in terms of roofline than the Mustang, but the seat in the Focus is set much higher. Plus, your Mustang is probably just a bit tighter as far as suspension than a rental Focus, which would contribute to the "canoe full of water on stilts" feel of the Focus.

Mustangs are by no stretch of the imagination low, but a Focus is like driving a friggin' Windstar. Try raising the seat up higher....
Btw, did you get the SVT or what? I'm curious about that one, especially from a 'car guy'.

I love having the seat high in my Zx3, I look over at people in their 30+ SUVs at eyelevel and smile 😉

That's the trend in small cars today. Higher = easier to get in and out, makes you think you're driving something bigger and safer than you are, better view, etc. The reason small cars have been low to the ground is due to wind resistance, now they can do pretty well with a higher body, using a smoother undercarriage, etc.

you can rent an SVT focus?

they do have a higher seating position (and roofline, actually) than many cars. they're really not all that small either.

on my focus (sedan) the rear is higher than the front by an inch and a half... so yes it does sit higher up.

At some point I will put lowering springs and stiffer shocks.

OK, here's the deal:

1990 Ford Mustang: 52.1" high
2002 Ford Focus Sedan: 56.3" high

Yes, the Focus sits pretty high. Hopefully, you red-lined that ol' 2.0 liter to see how well it performed. Unless you were renting the ZTS version, then the poor car didn't have the good Zetec engine.

*shrug* I dunno....
I would doubt it. The major car rental companies are going to stick with the "plain jane" Focus cars that feature power windows, power door locks & A/C.

so what's the story with the engine? what are you going to do?

I don't know yet. I also dont know anything about the focus I've got other than it's a focus, and it's green. Dont know which motor is in it or anything.

Oh, also my mustang is about 1.5" lower than stock.

i meant the motor in the stang. are you gonna get a shortblock or hope it's a bent valve?

The focus' that you rent arent as nice as a decked out focus. They are really cool cars, i still prefer a Honda but my 4 door se kicks arse!

i drive my mom's 03 wagon 2 or 3 times a week... it really isnt a bad car at all.. rides much better than my POS jetta. You definlty sit up higher in the car, which i like btw.

Same with me when I wrecked my 240sx and had a rented Focus. It really felt like an SUV. Higher than my dad's Taurus for sure. It handled pretty well though. I usually took corners too fast and it felt like it was going to flip.
