Is a flat screen tv really worth the extra $100+ over a standard screen?

I go in the store, look at all of them, and then can't decide. If I looked long enough at a $10,000 plasma tv I would find something wrong with it.

Hell, I had to bring someone with me last time I bought deoderant.. took me about 20 mins to decide which one I wanted.

Are you mentally retarded? Just asking... 20 mins to pick out deoderant with the help from someone? Are they retarded too? If so, I'm sorry for using the word retarded 🙂

You know, this might explain a few things...

Explain what.. that I can't make decisions for myself? I think it's a problem I have. Heck, spent over 5 mins once trying to decide on store brand or Mott's applesauce.

Instead of making a new thread, I will continue where this left off and hopefully someone will find me here at the bottom.

I have spent 3 days looking at TVs.

I need component inputs for DVD.
I would like 36"
I am only using over the air programming. No cable, No satellite. (Saving money, and hate paying $55 a month to watch commercials)

I watch a lot of DVDs.

My toss up is a Toshiba 36" bubble screen for $599.99
or
Sony Wega 36" Flat screen $1099.99 + matching Wega Stand $199

Seeing as how my viewing will be 60% news, sports, prime time sit-coms on the over the air programs
and 40% DVD movies I am need a little help and maybe and explaination on what TV to get. As you can see there is a big difference in price so you can see why I hesitate on the Sony, but if it is 10 times better then the extra $700 over the 12 months 0% interest can be worked out.

Please help me me out.

I personally bought a flat screen because it looked better to me, also I have a couch in front, a computer to the right and my bed to the left, I have no problems viewing the tv from almost any angle in my room. It also reduces reflections

Have you looked at the Samsung HDTV's in the price range? They have a pretty nice little 16:9 CRT HDTV, pretty respectable for the price.

I have owned nothing but Wegas (and love them), but for $1300 you can do a lot better than a 4:3 SD Wega.

Yet it only took you five seconds to decide to respond to his post.

How about translating some of that assertiveness into the real world.

Viper,
At one point during the last 3 days I was very sure that I wanted the Samsung 30" Widescreen HD Monitor.
I decided not to go with it in return for a larger TV. I found that a 30" (even though it is widescreen) is too small for my living room.

When I watch movies, I usually set the mood by turning off all the lights, so I am worried that I would spend $500 for less glare, when there are no light sources to create the glare anyway.
