Is a firewall really needed?

I've never had a problem with viruses or spyware. I'm very careful when it comes to that. Is the XP firewall enough for me?

Are you behind a router? Usually the Xp firewall is enough, but you might need outbound protection.

I sometimes wonder the some thing. MY laptop has XP and I just use windows firewall with Antivir. ON my desk that has Vista I use the vista firewall with Avast antivirus. This is all behind a router.
So far so good (as far as I know )

antivir, and running my physical desktop through a virtual machine running monowall firewall before going to the linksys router firewall

then you have 2 firewalls. Xp firewall and the hardware one on your router.

All routers I know of (mainstream, Linksys; Netdear; D-Link; Cisco; Buffalo; etc.) are equipped with NAT firewalls. They are automatic and on by default.

You should be fine with that and your OS Firewall.
