Is a domestic partner registry "substantially similar" to marriage?

Reality check. While I might agree that "government should get out of the marriage business" - if I gave it more thought - government isn't going to get out of the marriage business, not now, and probably not ever. Accordingly, since they aren't getting out of the business, I'd prefer that they define it in a non-discriminatory manner.

I say to those people, 'fine, good luck with that, but until you do it, stop discriminating'.

I have no problems with that. I think the other solution is a lot easier and side-steps a lot of these issues that we're having. But until then I don't have any problem with same-sex unions or marriages or whatever people want to call them.
